Before you leave this site with any unanswered mortgage related questions, contact me and I’ll get your answer. My name is Todd Lipps, and I live and work in Northeast Ohio. I am licensed mortgage loan officer with American Midwest Mortgage Corporation, located in Parma Heights, Ohio. I meet all mortgage licensing requirements of the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions and the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System.
My lending career began in 1998, when I started in retail banking with a well known regional bank. While there I discovered a passion for lending and personal finance. I soon realized that there was nothing more rewarding to me than making a positive financial impact in people’s lives. It was at the age of 28, that I found myself in a career, rather than having a job.
Early in April 2003, I looked at my calendar and saw 20 work days that month that were at least partially, if not entirely interrupted by 15 days of meetings. I am not talking about appointments with customers; I am talking about company meetings. I just couldn’t bear the meetings. It was like I could see mouths moving but all I could hear was ”blah, blah, blah”. Despite all of the interruptions, I was actually pretty successful. Ironically, the topic of many of the meetings was productivity. I remember attending meetings about future meetings. Since meetings weren’t optional, and they drove me nuts, I just “up and quit” one day, and decided I was going to be a mortgage broker.
I don’t remember it this way, but my wonderful, understanding wife, Lilia, (at that time, my new fiancée) at times reminds me that I came home one day and proudly announced that I had quit my job. When she describes it, I may have made a decision (dropped the news to her) in a rather cavalier fashion. “How was my day? Pretty busy actually, I picked up the dry cleaning, filled the gas tank, made a bunch of phone calls, and oh yeah, I quit my job… “ In hindsight, our conversation reminds me a little bit of the dinner conversation between Annette Benning and Kevin Spacey in American Beauty. In retrospect I still probably had a bit to learn about sharing a life and decision making with my future wife. I suppose that hearing her opinion on the matter would have been appropriate, considering we had just purchased a house and were planning a wedding. She was, for some reason, off-put by the idea of me jumping into a 100% commission job.
However…
Eight years and ten employers later (7 out of the 10 no longer exist), I am still selling mortgages and I love this business. I cannot really imagine being in another career. I enjoy working with all types of borrowers, but I particularly enjoy working with first time homebuyers and helping people through their credit issues.
